The South African government embraced TOGAF 8.1 in early 2008 as an architectural guideline and is now the first public sector entity to formally adopt and adapt TOGAF 9 for Enterprise Architecture (EA) delivery in government. The framework that resulted is referred to as the Government Wide Enterprise Architecture (GWEA) Framework.
Julius Segole, Chair of the GITOC, and Willie Needham, Chief Architect at SITA, were instrumental in the development of the GWEA Framework. They will discuss the creation and evolution of the framework as well as its alignment to TOGAF 9.
In addition to being chair of GITOC, Julius is CIO for the National Department of Social Development (DSD). He has a wealth of IT experience with a particular focus on EA. Julius is currently involved in leading or participating in strategic government projects such as e-gov, Integrated Justice System (IJS), National Integrated Social Information System (NISIS) and the development of the GWEA framework.
Willie has over 28 years of
experience in Information and ICT planning and development; 19 of
which were focussed on DOD Information & ICT Architecture.
Currently, he is leading the GWEA and Interoperability Standards
programme for Government. Willie is also leading and participating
in several committees, including SITA Enterprise Architecture
Committee, GITO Council Standing Committee on Architecture, DOD
Information Assurance Board and SABS standardisation
committees. |
